Magnesium oxide boards come in two primary formulations: magnesium sulfate (MgSO4) and magnesium chloride (MgCl). Our Gooban MgaPanel primarily uses MgSO4, with MgCl available for special orders. There are two main points to consider regarding the composition of these boards: the presence of magnesium sulfate versus magnesium chloride, and the level of soluble chloride content. In MgSO4 boards, magnesium sulfate replaces the magnesium chloride found in MgCl boards. If you're not a chemist, you might be wondering what this means. Simply put, magnesium sulfate provides the MgSO4 boards with excellent water resistance, preventing moisture from being reabsorbed by the halogens in the board. This is in contrast to past productions of magnesium oxide (MgCl) boards, which experienced issues with "weeping boards" and the corrosion of metal fasteners. The next generation of magnesium oxide boards is magnesium sulfate (MgSO4, also known as MagPanel) boards. With these manufacturing advancements, when you purchase MagPanel, you don't have to worry about the issues of "weeping boards."
