How to Achieve a Water Absorption Rate of Less Than 10%

This order from an Australian client requires a water absorption rate of less than 10%. These magnesium oxide boards will be used as exterior wall panels in steel structure buildings. Here’s how we approach this requirement:

1.Initial Measurement: We begin by measuring the volume and weight of the board.

2.Soaking Process: The board is then submerged in water. Every 24 hours, we measure the change in the board's weight, continuing the soaking process until the board's weight stabilizes.

3.Water Absorption Calculation: The water absorption rate is determined by the weight change over the soaking period.

During the first 24 hours of testing, the water absorption rate of the board exceeded the required 10%, reaching 11%. This indicates that the board does not meet the client's specifications. To address this, we will add specific additives to reduce the gaps in the board's molecular structure, thereby decreasing the water absorption rate.
